Wezesha Watoto: Implementation of Clinic-Based Developmental Screening in Kenya

Background: The importance of child developmental screening is gaining increased traction within low-resourced settings, but little known about the implementation programs clinical systems. This study aimed to evaluate acceptability, feasibility, fidelity, and sustainability integrating a tool in maternal health (MCH) clinic western Kenya.
 Methods: takes place infrastructure Academic Model Providing Access Healthcare (AMPATH). Developmental was integrated into MCH care September 2021 ongoing for children ages 18-36 months with perinatal HIV exposure. Feasibility, sustainability, fidelity are measured weekly time-motion analysis flow daily record review. Acceptability, were evaluated using semi-structured interviews caregivers staff, completed at baseline 6 post-implementation. Mixed methods data analyzed descriptive statistics, thematic coding, triangulation.
 Results: Since onset, 187 screened (69.8% eligible children), rate consistent over time. Average time complete 5.4 minutes decreasing Perceived inflated (≈16min) (≈20min). Facilitators included staff teamwork caregiver cooperation. Lack child’s mood barriers. Caregivers appreciated others’ concern their development noted ease answering questions. Staff’s remarks congruent, while emphasizing need motivating incentives staff. At months, had become routine. They desired feedback on performance provided ideas improvement. frequently asked availability assistance if potential delays identified during screening.
 Conclusion: integration aided by positive perceptions from both caregivers. Regular retraining, feedback, referral resources may optimize integration. Research evaluating cost effectiveness needed.
